Character History:
Jake Long, at the young age of thirteen, discovers (while with his mother and/or grandpa) that he has the ability to turn into a dragon at will. His grandpa Luang Lao Shi, having similar powers, becomes Jake's "Dragon Master", and alongside their talking shar-pei Fu Dog, Jake does his best to obey Gramps' every wish and become the world's first American Dragon.
Gramps introduces Jake's story by pointing out the many ways magical creatures (leprechauns, gargoyles, mermaids, etc) assimilate into human life without being noticed. Jake's job, as the future American Dragon, is to protect the magical creatures and humans from harming one another and, being what is considered to be the most powerful magical creature, Jake the Dragon must sort of all problems of the magical world, as well.

Jake takes his responsibilities seriously, but is a little too cocky about his powers. At his age, they tend to fluctuate, though after the experience of turning human mid-air, Jake starts to focus a little more. Though, even with this focus, it's recognized that Jake has a lot of trouble connecting with the magical creatures of NYC because of his lack of spiritual knowledge. Though he had been doing better, so Gramps takes Jake's training to Central Park, and during one evening they encounter the Huntsman, a ruthless man known for hunting magical creatures alongside the rest of the Huntsclan, hunting unicorns. Naturally, it is the American Dragon's duty to stop him, and though his initial attempts don't work out so well, he gets the unicorns to run away and has his first battle with both the Huntsman and Huntsgirl, the Huntsman's apprentice. She is headstrong and ready to fight, willing to do whatever it takes to slay her first dragon and move up from apprenticeship. Grampa intervenes in the fight, however, and the Huntsman and Huntsgirl escape unharmed.

Every day after school (where his two best friends Spud and Trixie have no idea about his powers, his crush Rose has no idea but her story is a BIT more complicated, and his crazy paranoid teacher Professor Rotwood who's inaccurate class on mythology [or, as he says, mythobiology] will be the death of this kid) Jake goes to his Grandpa's "electronics shop" for extra training. Unfortunately for Jake, his grandfather's training methods are all very metaphorical (sweep floor with dragon tail to practice swinging motions, and some much nastier stuff than that). With this disturbing form of training, Jake loses faith in his grandpa and complains to his mother (who is Lao Shi's daughter, but the dragon powers skipped her generation) and younger sister (who, because of being very intelligent for her age, developed her dragon powers at the age of eight). However, Jake's dad, being the normal human that he is, mixed with Jake's mother's insecurities towards her magical family, means that Jake has to keep these powers from his father, which adds to the difficulties of his already unfortunate troubles.

Because of Jake's loss in faith, he decided to skip dragon training, thinking that Grandpa is just using him, and goes to hang out with his friends instead (for the first time in a couple weeks). When Grandpa is alone, he is ambushed by the Huntsman and Huntsgirl, and is tricked into the stereotypical dragon "knot" position and captured (Fu Dog escapes through the sewers and warns Jake). Jake, in this dangerous situation, immediately takes his responsibilities more seriously and goes to save Grandpa, taking on the Huntsman and Huntsgirl by himself and ends up using the techniques his Grandfather taught him, realizing his mistake. During the fight, Huntsgirl's identity as Jake's crush Rose is revealed through the dragon-shaped birthmark on her arm, and after fleeing, Grandpa warns Jake about the dangers of flirting with one's mortal enemy.

Within the next few weeks, Jake's training is stepped up to learning more advanced dragon techniques, specifically shapeshifting, which he cannot really do yet, but Fu Dog creates a spell that taps into the shapeshifting powers, though also limits his dragon powers (Gramps and Jake capture a goblin that is going to make a deal with the Huntsman to collect a dark power orb). Jake's experience with shapeshifting teaches him not to abuse his powers (he turns into a idol of Rose's to get closer to her, he turns into his parents to avoid a parent-teacher conference with Prof. Rotwood, turns into pro-skater Tommy King to get Spud and Trixie their skatepark back, etc) when all those transformations mess with his ability to turn into the goblin and leads to him getting captured by the Huntsclan and is almost forced to reveal his human face to the Huntsman and Huntsgirl. Fortunately for Jake, Gramps saves him just in the nick of time and they escape unharmed with the orb.

Jake's next significant adventure involves the pain of dragon-related puberty. His breath gets really rank as a result (like, evacuating the school-bad) and he loses his chance to ask Rose to the school dance. He tries to find a hot date to make her jealous and goes to the magical underworld with a potion to hide his bad breath and finds himself a great girl who just happens to be a dangerous nyx who unintentionally transforms into her monstrous form at the dance and sucks out the souls of every person there. Jake not only defeats her but, since Rose's date Brad abandoned her for Jake's, gets his first dance with Rose and finds out that she would've preferred to go to the dance with him in the first place.

A few nights later Jake is visited by a troll, who likes to cause a lot of trouble and doesn't always listen to Jake's instructions. The troll needs to stay out of the sun for the day to prepare for his date with...Jake's Aunt Patti (who just thinks she's going on a date with a very hairy guy), and during this little adventure Jake learns to never burn troll hair.

Eventually, Jake's sister Haley, while bragging to him about her fantastic grades, gets a loose tooth. The Tooth Fairy, in her excitement over a dragon tooth, is ambushed by her assistant, Dr. Diente, who has been waiting for the opportunity to take over. That night, Jake makes plans with Trixie and Spud to see Jake's favorite singer, Shaniqua, in concert, but has to watch Haley at the same time. Dr. Diente makes his move for Haley's tooth, and eventually gets to her, but Jake defeats him just in time with the Tooth Fairy and Grandpa's help, missing the concert to save his sister.

Professor Rotwood shows off his paranoia soon after this when the school's talent show trophy is actually an ancient chalice that, when filled with water, releases an evil jinn. Spud has dreamed of winning the talent show with his magic act, but when Grandpa finds out about the chalice, he forces Jake to enter against Spud, breaking Spud's trust. Professor Rotwood bribes Brad Morton, the school's lead quarterback, into entering the show and winning the chalice for him. The chalice fills with water from a leak in the ceiling of the auditorium, releasing the genie at the perfect time so that the audience thinks it's a part of Spud's act. Spud wins and gives Jake the trophy, and everyone makes up in the end.

The Huntsman returns in Jake's next adventure, going after leprechaun gold. Professor Rotwood, while searching for proof of magical creatures, catches a glimpse of Jake's fight with the Huntsgirl, and is arrested for "peeping" while trying to take a picture. When he returns to class, he offers a $500 award to any student that provides to him a photograph of the dragon. Jake, trying to earn money to help Trixie pay for a vase she broke, takes pictures of himself as a dragon and transforming into a dragon. During another fight with the Huntsgirl, Jake gets knocked out and found by Trixie and Spud, who bring the dragon to Professor Rotwood to collect the money. Then, when looking for Jake, they see the photographs and discover Jake's true identity. After this, they go to his grandpa, save Jake, and get Professor Rotwood sent to prison (again). Grandpa orders Jake to use a spell to erase Spud and Trixie's memories, but Jake refuses and from that episode on, the two of them occasionally help Jake with his magical missions.

At school later on, Jake gets the classic Home Ec assignment of caring for an egg. At the same time, the local gryffon just laid an egg and Jake has to take care of that as well. The Huntsman and Huntsgirl are after the egg, too, and Jake makes off with the egg, but then loses it in to the Huntsman again, who drops it and it switches places with Spud and Trixie's Home Ec egg, which breaks on the ground. Jake gets the egg from Trixie and Spud and returns it to the mother gryffon just in time for it to hatch and then be eaten by the mother.

Eli Panderas, a famous dark magic wizard, has been researched by Fu Dog for a while, and he's discovered that Panderas has stolen leprechaun gold funding his company. This is Spud and Trixie's first time joining Jake in a mission; they go undercover in Panderas Towers as a music act. Jake gets to the gold and defeats the "Wizard of Wall Street" with the leprechaun gold in tact.

Later, Jake, Trixie, and Spud go to Coney Island, and Jake sees a small "freakshow" booth with a unicorn inside. As the American Dragon, Jake has to save the unicorn (they apparently die when separated from their pack for too long). The sideshow people chase after him, but Jake narrowly saves the unicorn in time for it to reunite with its' herd.

Jake's conflicts with the Huntsclan return when a magic scared beetle is being hunted, and Jake has to hold on to it before the Huntsman can get his hands on it. But at the same time, Jake finds out that Rose is playing the part of Cleopatra in their local Shakespeare in the Park celebration, so of course he auditions for Antony and gets the part easily. Everytime they try to practice, while finding a play to practice is hard enough (Jake finds his family too embarrassing, Rose lives with her "uncle", the Huntsman, and can't bring anyone home, and Grandpa is holding the beetle at his shop), so they try Grandpa's shop anyway. The beetle gets loose in the shop and sneaks into Jake's bookbag, so the next night they try Rose's house and the beetle gets trapped there when she has to kick Jake out. At their next attempt (they use Trixie's house), the beetle gets loose again and they both see it, so they continually switch off into closets and change into dragon form and Huntsgirl, fighting each other on the roof and running back in Trixie's apartment, the Huntsman showing up and grabbing the beetle. The Huntsman plans to use the beetle's powers to revive all the past members of the Huntsclan will come back as an army. Skipping the play, Jake and Gramps intercept the mission, and manage to defeat the raised Huntsclan army and sprain Huntsgirl's ankle. The next day, when Jake sees Rose at school, he sees her with the sprained ankle, doesn't make the connection, and finally asks her out for real.

Jake's next mission takes place while camping with his dad, Spud, and Trixie, to his extreme embarrassment. The trip is going fine until Jake the nearby Sprite Village of Avon. They've been expecting attacks from the Jersey Devil and have prophecies of a great hero to save them, which everyone assumes is Jake for obvious reasons. Jake fights the Jersey Devil and manages to scare it off for the first night, but it should return for the next seven nights. Because of staying out all night, Jake needs to sleep during the day and Mr. Long feels abandoned by his son while Trixie and Spud hang out with him instead. During one of his next fights with the Jersey Devil, Jake's dad ends up saving everyone, and the sprites realize that their hero was actually supposed to be a human.

Jake's next assignment was to watch over the oracle twins, Cara and Sara. They're being chased by goblins and Jake takes them to school to protect them (and he also tries to use them to help him study for Rotwood's inaccurate mythology test, which he has trouble with because of how wrong everything Rotwood includes is). They end up being captured anyways, but Jake chases Herbert the Goblin Mob Boss to the Ogre Bowl (he's using the twins to predict winners for bets) and saves them and defeats Herbert.

Jake travels to his very first Dragon Summit sometime later. There Jake will meet, for the first time, the World Dragon Council, who have a few criticisms towards Grandpa's teachings and Jake's attitude. The other teenage dragons (especially the Australian Dragon, Fred Nerk) decide to play a few pranks on Jake, and Jake's first impressions on the Council is less than formidable. The Council, disturbed by Jake's problems with following some official dragon rules. They decide to have him officially tested, three tests in the magic of fire, wisdom, and flight. Jake has to pass at least two of the tests, or he will be assigned a new Dragon Master. This episode introduces the magical world's number one enemy, the Dark Dragon, who is revealed to be in cahoots with Councilor Chang, one of the Dragon Council and Lao Shi's old flame. In his last test, Jake encounters the Dark Dragon, saving Nerk from him and learning of the Dark Dragon's interest in him. After his encounter with the Dark Dragon, Jake decides to take his responsibility as the American Dragon even more seriously, realizing the necessity of dragons working together.

Jake then encounters Eli Panderas once again when the dark wizard opens a beauty pageant, which Fu Dog enters undercover. Jake and Gramps discover that Panderas plans to marry the winner of his contest (which, of course, ends up being Fu Dog) under the influence of a prophecy that will make Panderas the most powerful wizard in the world. Jake and Grandpa are captured while investigating, so the girls from the beauty pageant save Fu Dog and the dragons instead.
A few weeks later, in early February comes around, Rose is back and she and Jake are finally dating. However, it's established that every one of their dates has been interrupted early by dragon business or Huntsclan business. Jake decides that on the class ski trip, he's going to tell Rose that he's a dragon. Unfortunately for him, Brad keeps making moves on Rose during the trip, making it hard for them to spend time together so he can tell her. After a snowy fight with the Huntsgirl, who was trying to capture a yeti, Jake discovers that the Huntsgirl is someone from his class. He attempts to find out who, and when Trixie and Spud realize it's Rose, Jake denies the possibility. He goes after Rose when she leaves the ski grounds, and after a very messy battle with the Huntsgirl, Jake takes off the Huntsgirl's glove and sees Rose's dragon-shaped birthmark, finally accepting that she's who she is. Rose stays ignorant to Jake's identity, however, and tries to spend more time with him, but Jake reluctantly blows her off.

In early Spring, Jake has to deal with his parents constant embarrassing notes on all his school papers and bookbag, which Brad discovered and won't stop teasing him about. At the same time, a pair of giants' 8-year-old son decided to run away and enter a wrestling league. Jake has to chase after the boy and convince him to come back to his parents, by joining the wrestling league in a "dragon costume". The giant kid's wrestling coach finds out about the giant village and tries to capture them all and force them to wrestle each other. When the kid finds out, he quits the wrestling league and defeats his coach with Jake's help, saving all the giants.

Jake's next mission is to find and capture a gremlin, which causes constant mischief and mayhem towards the human world. While trying to capture it, Jake's mom has the biggest catering job of her career, and the gremlin naturally makes its' way to the wedding to mess everything up. Jake ends up almost destroying all her mom's hard work and ruining her career, but saves the wedding by singing an embarrassing hula song that puts the gremlin (and its hundred copies) to sleep and reunites the bride and groom.

The Dragon Council returns with an interest in giving Jake his yearly dragon test, though Chang is once again shown to have a grudge against Lao Shi's student. They decide to give Jake a surprise test on Halloween night, when Jake threw a mixed human/magical creature party under the guise of everyone wearing a costume. Three members of the Council show up at the party, immensely disturbed by the event and they, especially Chang, threaten to, and do, remove his dragon powers "until further notice" and are suspended from the Dragon Order. Those three councilmen are then ambushed and captured by the Huntsclan. Jake attempts to save them, but can't without his dragon powers. He still manages to save them with the help of all the magical creatures at his party. They reinstate him at the end of the episode, much to Chang's dismay.

In an attempt to rekindle their relationship, Rose tries to start talking to Jake again, who continues avoiding her after discovering her role as the Huntsgirl. Trixie and Spud warn Jake to continue avoiding Rose, who they're sure would slay him even knowing who he is. Rose, however, starts to show more and more signs of disinterest towards the Huntsclan, but she still wants to slay the American Dragon after their many battles.

Jake, while flying around the city, is attacked by the Huntsgirl, who leads him into the subway and he gets hit by a train, knocked out, and captured by the Huntsclan. He is then, along with an angry brownie, unlucky leprechaun, water-phobic mermaid, and unintelligent giant, are set up into the Huntsclan's Grand Equinox Hunt, where they release these creatures into the woods and then chased by the entirety of the Huntsclan. Huntsgirl decides to use this opportunity to finally slay her first dragon. After Jake uses his leadership skills to train all the magical creatures to fight against the Huntsclan, he chases the Huntsman away, but is tied to a tree by the Huntsgirl and she immediately makes her move to slay him. Jake then reveals his identity to her, hoping she won't slay him, and she releases him and runs away. Jake returns to school happily thinking he and Rose can then be together without problem, only to find out that Rose has moved without any sign of where she's gone.

Chang returns to Jake's life by sending him, Grandpa, and herself on a mission to find the Dark Dragon. Jake ends up staying behind and Fu Dog informs him all about Lao Shi's past with Chang. Lao Shi and Chang, while traveling in the sewers, are also reminiscing on their past together. Once they find the Dark Dragon, Chang reveals her loyalty to the Dark Dragon and traps Lao Shi again. Jake and Fu Dog find them and saves with them the help of the Tooth Fairy, Cara & Sara, and Spud and Trixie with some spell-given superpowers. Jake then defeats the Dark Dragon, and even starts trying to do better in school, just for the end of the schoolyear.

A little over three months later, now at age fourteen, Jake is doubling his spiritual training. However, during an advanced dreaming state, an image of Rose enters his mind and warns him of a large plan the Huntsman has. When he wakes up, Jake discovers Huntsgirl's mask in his hands, and he thinks Rose is trying to contact him. Fu Dog decides to help Jake by showing him a location spell, which requires a large amount of Krylock venom. While also trying to get extra credit for his cooking class, they end up using the Krylock venom in their cupcakes instead of the spell. All the cupcake buyers start turning into krylock/human hybrids, and Jake has to defeat the Krylock to turn them back. In the effort to get to the Krylock, he sees Rose through a second interdemensional portal, and reluctantly lets her go to save everyone. After everyone is saved, Jake tells Fu that he's done searching for Rose, but Fu convinces him to continue. After the Krylock incident, Jake's Home Ec teacher Sun Park shows an increased interest in Jake.

Jake's conflicts with his father increase when he's staying out later fighting the Huntsman and attending to other American Dragon duties, and his dad starts to ground him regularly. Jake asks his mom, again, why they can't tell his dad about their magical history. His mom confesses that she almost told Jonathan about it on their last day of high school, but couldn't do it. Jake uses a time-traveling hourglass to travel back in time and change the past so that his dad would know about their dragon side. The plan backfires when Jonathan rejects Susan, deciding she's crazy. Fu Dog then tells Jake that if he doesn't somehow fix that, he and Haley will disappear forever. Jake finds his dad and gives him proof of magical creatures, which makes the Huntsclan (specifically, the present-day Huntsman as an apprentice) come after him and kidnaps his dad. Jake gets his mother and Grandpa and they go to save Jonathan, who has finally accepted Susan's dragon lineage after being threatened by the Huntsclan. He's knocked out, and when he wakes up, they convince Jonathan that none of the dragon business ever happened.

The Fall Dance is coming up again, and Jake's still desperately missing Rose, so he doesn't want to go with a date this year. While discussing with Trixie and Spud, Cara and Sara arrive to tell Jake that the Huntsman plans to rid the world of all magical creatures. Jake and Spud go undercover in the Huntsclan Academy as Numbers 88 and 89, two geekish trainees who they capture. There Jake finds Rose, who is stuck at the Academy until she finally slays her first dragon. Jake is caught at the Academy, and the Huntsman gives Rose this opportunity to slay the American Dragon. Fortunately for them, Jake and Spud accidentally develop a potion that will give Jake the appearance of death, and in case it doesn't work, Jake finally kisses Rose before their battle. After the battle and Jake wakes up again, Rose sends him back home with the knowledge of the Huntsman's plan. At the Fall Dance, Rose appears back at their school, where she tells Jake that even though she's back, they can't really spend time with each other.

A few weeks later, Jake discovers that Haley has started her dragon training under the Korean Dragon, who turns out to be his Home Ec teacher, Sun Park. While Jake is dealing with Haley joining him on his missions, Death starts rooming with Fu Dog for the week and Jake trains alongside Haley, learning that Sun's methods are a lot nicer and cheesier than Grandpa's. However, on a mission, Haley gets separated from Jake and kidnapped. They're able to find her with Death's help, because he can sense anyone in mortal danger. Jake saves her and Haley stops trying to hog the spotlight from him.
Another twist in Jake's life comes to fruition when Jake finds out that his school principal is a mermaid detective, who thought Jake was an evil Kelpie and was dating his grandpa to get closer to him. When Jake and Principal Disetto capture the Kelpie, she leaves the school to return to the East River Mermaid City, and Professor Rotwood takes over as principal.
That Christmas, Jake tries to avoid his family's embarrassing Christmas traditions by visiting Trixie, who's immensely upset that her dad couldn't make it home for Christmas. While this is going on, some Huntsclan and Principal Rotwood are chasing after a baby sasquatch, and Jake, with Trixie and Spud's help, save the baby and return it to its' family. Jake also manages to de-ice Trixie's dad's plane so he can get home in time for Christmas morning.

Jake and Rose start hanging out again, and Rose realizes that hanging out with Jake is risky while the Huntsman is watching over her. After fighting a a snake-like creature together, Rose officially separates from Jake, telling him they need to stay apart. Soon after, Rose finally figures out the details of the Huntsman's plot, and tries to tell Jake, but he blows her off because of his second instsnce of dragon puberty, his skin turning gray and bumpy for a few days before shedding off. She enters Fu Dog's dreams to warn Jake of the Huntsman's plan to hunt for the magical crystal skulls, which, when put together, will grant the user unlimited wishes. The Huntsman, now living in an abandoned part of the subway, starts to doubt Rose's loyalty to him, and demands the pelt of the American Dragon. Jake comes up with the plan to give Rose his shedded skin, and it fully convinces the Huntsman. Using a set of dream charms, Rose and Jake agree to stop seeing each other in person, but start going on dream dates almost every night.

On one of his dream dates with Rose, she confesses that her parents died right after her birth, and that the Huntsman immediately took her in. Because of these dream dates, Jake is constantly late for school, and Principal Rotwood will only let him pass the seventh grade if he takes a test on a "famous" scientist of Rotwood's choosing (...and he won't tell Jake which scientist). While on another dream date, he tells Rose about this, and she shows him how to travel between people's dreams. They enter Rotwood's dreams, learning his childhood and snagging the test answers. While in his subconscious, Jake is attacked by a dream chimera that's creating negative feelings in any dream it travels through.

They return to the dream realm when the chimera escapes to everyone else's dreams, and Rose is chased by the chimera into her own subconscious, where she learns that her parents are alive and the Huntsclan kidnapped her from them immediately after birth because of her dragon-shaped birthmark. It's also discovered that Rose has a twin, though her sibling did not have the birthmark, so she or he stayed with Rose's parents. After the adventure defeating the chimera, Jake realizes that he doesn't need Rotwood's cheat sheet, because the essay is on Rotwood himself. Jake passes with flying colors, much to Rotwood's surprise!

Jake's obsession with Rose starts to annoy his grandfather, because Jake starts to get severely distracted from his dragon duties. Lao Shi convinces Rose to break up with Jake for both of their safety. At this time, Cupid is going on vacation and leaves his bow and arrow with Jake, who, after Rose breaks up with him, tries to use one on her at the school's "Love Cruise" event. Because she already loves him already, the arrow makes Rose feel just the opposite, and she sends the entire Huntsclan after Jake since she knows his identity. Rose almost does so, but Fu Dog manages to hit her again to turn her back to normal and she officially breaks up with Jake, having seen first-hand how distracted Jake had gotten. Jake then does his best to leave Rose behind and stick to his dragon duties.

Jake's magical family reunion comes up soon after, and Lao Shi distracts Jonathan from arriving. Jake and his immediate family are shown to be completely isolated from the rest of their family (besides Haley because she's, well, Haley) because of her marriage to a normal human. While Jake fights amongst his cousin Gregory (who has just developed his dragon powers), a bunch of Shark-People come after Neptune's Trident in an attempt to sink the Eastern half of the United States. Jake and his family continue fighting even after defeating the Shark-People until Jonathan and Lao Shi finally arrive and fix things up.

Eli Panderas returns again, which a competition to find the smartest teenager in New York City so he can use them to open Pandora's Box. Jake gets Spud, with his unwanted genius, to actually take the test, and Spud is forced into the Genius Institute. After Spud tires of all the pretentious kid geniuses mocking him for not caring, he shows them up by easily figuring out the code to Pandora's Box and without realizing what he's doing, opens it for Panderas. Jake and Trixie come to his rescue, and Spud ends up saving everyone.

A large videogame convention comes to the city, and Spud drags Trixie along while Jake is stuck at home. He decides to use his chi doppelganger abilities to break the rules, but Haley catches and then tells on him. Jake's parents set up an advanced security system to avoid Jake leaving the house during the night and he tricks Haley into breaking the rules to watch a show their dad forbid. Haley becomes addicted to breaking the rules because of the thrill and the show, which is run by a mind-controlling pooka. Haley turns completely evil and starts working for the pooka, and Jake has to defeat her and confess to their parents about all the rule-breaking.

Jake and Haley bond even more when, during a mission they recover a mirror that switches people's minds. They are unable to switch back until after school, so Jake has to go to Haley's advanced genius school, while Haley ruins Jake's "cool" reputation by joining the algebra athletes and other educational clubs. While playing each other, Haley and Jake come to realize a larger appreciation for one another.

A few weeks later, right before Homecoming, Jake encounters Rose again, where they've both been nominated for Homecoming King and Queen. The Huntsman's search for the thirteen crystal skulls is almost over, but Jake has been able to stop him with the help of Rose's inside info. Though Rose doesn't want to go to Homecoming together because of the danger involved, Jake convinces her to go with him by promising to help her find her parents. Unfortunately for Rose, the Huntsman is finally given proof of Rose's betrayal and threatens her parents safety. He forces her to snag the crystal skulls from Grandpa's shop, betraying Jake and his family. Without Jake realizing it, Rose came up with a plan to trick the Huntsman into starting his wish to rid the world of magical creatures, but finishing it by ridding the world of the Huntsclan, instead. Jake tries to hold on to her, but she starts to disappear, so Jake uses the skulls again to wish Rose had never become a member of the Huntsclan in the first place. Rose therefore loses all her memories of Jake, but he, Trixie, Spud, and the dragons that helped fight the Huntsclan still remember. Jake, after proving to himself that there's no more Huntsclan in NYC, "meets" Rose, who he learns is moving to Hong Kong with her parents. Jake happily lets her go after seeing her with her parents.

After Rose's departure, Jake goes through a lot of less significant adventures involving: accidentally aging himself, meeting a new girl named Danica, meeting a young non-evil wizard named Nigel, learning the traditions of Chinese New Year, almost having Fu replaced by a monkey named Bananas B (who turns out to be working for Chang and the Dark Dragon), fighting vampires alongside his dad, allowing Principal Rotwood to learn his true identity in order to save him from the magical world (who've put a bounty of his head), and forfeiting his powers to live a normal life for a few weeks (the end of his middle school career) while Haley acts as the American Dragon. During this time the Dark Dragon is preparing for his return to destroy Jake and the Dragon Council.

Jake's final adventure involves a family (plus Trixie and Spud) trip to Hong Kong, where he and Grandpa are going to a Dragon Council meeting under the guise of a fun trip for everyone. Grandpa is captured by Chang and Bananas B and brought to the Dark Dragon, who orders Jake to pour a mind-control potion into the drink for the ceremonial toast of the Dragon Council so DD can swoop in and defeat them all at once. Jake knows that dragons don't know how to fight other dragons, and decides to try and find Rose and convince her to help him fight the Dark Dragon. She immediately rejects him and his request, but Jake follows her and does his best to convince her. She instead calls the police on him and Jake is heartbroken, but was...kind of expecting it. Rose is finally convinced when Jake's photograph of them together is left at her house, and her memories are immediately restored.
While this is going on, Jake's dad accidentally sees Haley in dragon form, and faints. Susan finally explains everything to him and he takes he pretty well, considering how he took it initially as a high school student. Jake goes to the Dragon Council meeting for the Thousand Year Toast and, as promised to the Dark Dragon, pours the potion into everyone's cup. The Dark Dragon immediately shows up to take over, and only then realizes that Jake tricked him by pouring a simple transmorphing potion instead.

As the battle ensues, Rose shows up and fights alongside Jake, and they defeat the Dark Dragon who is then sucked into an alternate dimension for the next one thousand years. Rose and Jake reconcile, and Jake and his dad finally, after so many years of ignorant tension, come to a complete mutual understanding.

Character Personality:
Jake is an extremely varied character. For the most part, he's your typical cocky "chosen one" archetype. He becomes more modest as the series carries on and he goes through darker situations. Jake is also very impulsive - he will make inappropriate choices right when he thinks of them if he believes things will work out in his favor. He [almost] always manages to fix the situation, though. Throughout the series, Jake is considered a definite play-boy, ladies man - except around Rose, because their relationship is...complicated. He gets nervous and uncomfortable around Rose in the first season [before he finally asks her out] though after she left in season two he's shown to flirt around and hang out with a lot of girls his age.

Jake, though cocky, tries very hard and tries to always listen to his grandpa, even if he doesn't quite understand the training he's going through. Though he'll often go off on his own agenda when his friends are in harm's way. Jake appreciates his dragon powers like no other - it definitely enhanced his competitive nature - but he, like most teenage boys with superpowers, often desires a normal life, and at one point acted purposefully inappropriate to get his powers taken away. When he wants something, Jake will stop at nothing to get to it.

However often he dislikes his responsibilities as the American Dragon, Jake takes them very seriously and will always put other people's needs over his own when it comes to the magical world. Though he's still very dedicated to his own desires - Rose, especially - and will do anything for her to make her life easier or more comfortable, even if it means letting go of her.
Overall: Jake is cocky and still learning how to use his powers, but he's very responsible, always making up for his mistakes, and dedicated to the people he loves. Plus, he's a great skater and rapper-wannabe :D

Powers and Abilities:
Though he doesn't have to use his standard "Dragon up!" chant, Jake can transform into a dragon [or just transform parts of himself into parts of a dragon] at will. This includes: shapeshifting abilities (though not perfected), flight (has to have the wings out), super strength (only as a dragon), enhanced senses ("eye of the dragon" and "ear of the dragon"), breathing fire (at least dragon mouth), skin with an armor-like protection (must be full dragon), and he knows a small variety of magic spells (creating doppelgangers, portals to other worlds/parts of the world, and not much else, but he'd need the proper ingredients anyways).

[Jake shifts his eyes, clearing his throat. He puts on a big, fake smile and waves.]

Yo everybody! Wussup?

I, uh...didn't get the chance to explain...well...look, most people don't know that I'm a dragon, okay? Although a lot of you seemed cool with it, which is totally sweet!, but if you're not, it's aight. I've dealt with worse reactions.

But, just...it's my job to protect magical creatures and humans; that's why I'm one of each. This ain't some Jekyll 'n Hyde thing where I go crazy - I just turn into a dragon. My sister and grandpa can do it, too, plus a whole ton of other people all around the world.

Er...my world.

But, ah, check it: I just don't want anybody to be scared. I've never had to deal with this many regular people knowing about it, so...yeah. Don't get scared or nuthin' when I change! Cool?

Third Person:
He missed home desperately. Jake sighed, stroking his thumb across the folded picture of a tall blonde girl in a long, purple dress. He presses the picture to his forehead, sighing again.

Rose, Rose, Rose...

Back home, he'd finally found her again after three months. Three months of no word or record of where she'd gone or Huntsclan attack to track her from...nothing. And now that he'd found her, he held her tightly, heard her soft voice again, and finally kissed her.

Then he woke up here. No Rose. No one familiar - all people from strange worlds going through strange happenings and he felt all alone without Trixie or Spud or Fu Dog or Gramps...he needed somebody familiar or he was gonna break.

Jake pulled out the photo again, recalling [insert other character]'s surprise when he said it came with him to Nautilus. Apparently that didn't happen often, and Jake prayed a few "thank you"s that he was able to keep at least this one piece of his own world to keep him sane.

Getting up slowly, the young boy walked over to his bedroom window and opened it, relishing the feel of the nighttime wind against his face and hair. He pocketed Rose's picture and hopped out of the window, falling for only a few seconds before his body became enveloped in a growing flame. The fire dissipated and a large, red dragon's body flew up from out of the smoke, doing a few twists and turns in the air.

After only a few moments, raindrops started beating on his head, and Jake's dragon form smirked sadly at the weather's irony. It must've been trying to match his mood. He continued flying, figuring he could just grab a shower when he was done and then head off to a miserable sleep in his unfamiliar bed in this unfamiliar house.

Yes, Jake was horribly, horribly homesick. He'd even strive to say he'd love to see Haley at this point, which made him shake his head jerkily. No, no, if he suddenly had a desire to hang out with Haley, he definitely needed that shower now. That girl, no matter how innocent and sweet, would always be worse than this hellhole of a home Jake stayed in.
